The Program is founded on three core values:

Scientific excellence and evidence-based practice

We base teaching and clinical practice on the most up-to-date and reliable scientific data, with an emphasis on critical thinking and the continuous renewal of knowledge.

Interdisciplinarity and collaboration (One Health)

We promote collaboration among physicians, nurses, medical microbiologists, pharmacists, veterinarians and public health professionals, recognizing that the rational control of infections and antimicrobial resistance concerns the health of humans, animals and the environment.

Responsibility towards the patient and public health

We place particular emphasis on the ethical dimension of clinical practice, on reducing antimicrobial resistance, on patient safety, and on protecting the community.

Our central message is that infection control and the rational use of antimicrobials are not merely academic subjects, but critical interventions for safeguarding health today and for future generations, through a comprehensive One Health approach.

The English‑language MSc program “Innovative Approaches in Clinical Microbiology and Infectomics” of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Sciences, International Hellenic University, highlights the new era of modern Clinical Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Personalized Infectious Diseases.

The program focuses on advanced applications of biomedical and genomic–molecular sciences in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on the infectome approach: the dynamic ecosystem of pathogenic microorganisms, their functional interactions, and their relationship with the host. Students will be trained in modern multi‑omics and bioinformatics approaches that enable the mapping of diagnostic challenges of pathogens and contribute to the development of personalized infectiology, transforming the management of chronic and recurrent infections.

A key element of the English‑language MSc is targeted practical laboratory training (hands‑on training). Designed with an intensive and well‑structured educational character, it ensures optimal familiarization with laboratory conditions, using cutting‑edge technologies, including NGS applications and modern methodologies in molecular diagnostics and bioinformatics.

It is particularly important that the program is delivered almost entirely online, allowing the participation of students from all over Greece and abroad without requiring permanent residence in Thessaloniki. Physical presence is required only during the intensive practical laboratory training, which takes place in specially organized face‑to‑face teaching sessions.

The aim of the English‑language MSc is to cultivate and advance knowledge and research in the fields of Clinical Microbiology, Molecular Medicine, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Biomedical Sciences, providing high‑level theoretical and applied education to young scientists and health professionals. At the same time, it strengthens the development of research and critical skills that support interdisciplinary research and the continuation of studies at doctoral level.

Teaching is carried out in English, facilitating direct access to the international scientific literature and the academic and professional networking of students with research and educational institutions abroad.
