Dean of the School of Science and Technology, Assoc. Professor Tjortjis, gives interview to Macedonia Newspaper on IT studies

Assoc. Prof. C.Tjortjis, Dean of the School of Science and Technology at the International Hellenic University, gave interview to Macedonia Newspaper, Sunday edition (17/10/21) and the journalist Ms Elena Apostolidou. She inquired about Informatics in the modern era, why IT graduates are high in demand and why employers often complain about ICT skill scarcity.
Prof. Tjortjis responded that indeed ICT has rapidly evolved over the past years. The increase of the number of MSc programmes our School offers, from 1 to 6 in just 8 years, bears testimony to this. Prominent successful examples include the MSc in Data Science, in Cyber security and in E-Business and Digital Marketing. This year only there is a 40% increase in applications for our MSC in the ICT/ Data Science sector.
We have diversified our portfolio, yet we are deliberating founding more interdisciplinary MSc programmes in collaboration with other Departments, Universities and Research institutions, seeking to meet real life, societal needs.
As far as the employers looking for ICT skilled graduates are concerned, indeed the vast majority of our students find rewarding jobs even prior to graduation yet graduates who invested time and effort for upskilling are seeking meaningful, rewarding jobs, with excellent career prospects, in a global job market.
