Dr. Jürgen Schmude holds the Chair for “Economic Geography and Tourism Research“ at the Department for Geography at the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in Munch. He is actually Head of the Department and leader of the teaching and research unit “Economic Geography”. He also is member of the faculty council of the “Faculty of Geosciences”.
Dr. Schmude finished his studies and received his first degree in “Geography” and “Mathematics” in 1984 at the University at Heidelberg. He started his scientific career at the Institute for Geography at the University of Heidelberg, where he finished his dissertation in 1987 as well as his habilitation in 1993. In 1994 he started as a professor for “Economic Geography” at the Institute for Economic Geography at the LMU in Munich. From 1998 until 2008 he held the Chair for Economic Geography and Tourism Research at the Institute for Geography at the University of Regensburg. Since 2008 Dr. Schmude holds the Chair for “Economic Geography and Tourism Research“ at the Department for Geography at the LMU in Munch.
Dr. Schmude is teaching Economic Geography in bachelors, masters and teaching professions program in Munich. As a member of a SOCRATES exchange program he is also teaching in Lecce (Italy) once a year. His main research interests are focused on economic disparities in general and the impact of global and climate change on tourism economy. Dr. Schmude researches in Germany, France and the Caribbean Sea (Guadeloupe, Dominica).
