The Energy Charter Treaty and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms

The International Hellenic University (in the context of the “MSc in Energy Law, Business, Regulation and Policy” and the “LLM in Transnational and European Commercial Law, Banking Law, Arbitration/Mediation” postgraduate programmes) in collaboration with the University of Cyprus are delighted to announce a conference on “The Energy Charter Treaty and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms” to be held on October 5th, 2024, in the vibrant city of Thessaloniki, Greece. This conference aims to provide a platform for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and industry experts to explore and discuss critical issues surrounding the Energy Charter and the mechanisms available for resolving disputes arising in the energy sector.

Call for papers! / Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines:

Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be submitted by 31.05.2024 to ectconference@ihu.gr

Submissions should include the title of the paper, author(s) name, affiliation, and contact details.

Papers must be presented in English.

Scholars are encouraged to identify their submission with the following subject line: “The Energy Charter Treaty and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms Conference – Abstract Submission”.

Notification of acceptance will be sent by 30.06.2024.

Conference Themes:

We invite submissions of papers on topics including, but not limited to:

  1. The Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) and its relevance in the contemporary energy landscape.
  2. Dispute resolution mechanisms under the Energy Charter Treaty.
  3. Arbitration and mediation in energy disputes. Recent developments and challenges in energy arbitration.
  4. Investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) in the energy sector.
  5. The role of international organizations in facilitating energy dispute resolution.

Venue

The conference will take place at the International Hellenic University, located in Thermi, Thessaloniki, Greece (Auditorium Costas Th. Grammenos). 

Thessaloniki, known for its rich history and vibrant culture, provides an ideal setting for scholarly discussions and networking opportunities.

Costs

There are no fees to participate in this Conference. 

Participants are, however, responsible for securing their own funding for travel and lodging.
