Feeding the ever-increasing global population over the next decades may only be possible if we sustainably intensify agriculture. Mycorrhizal technologies hold a lot of promise in sustainably increasing crop yield, but unrealistic farmer expectations make implementations considerably harder. We will start the talk via briefly introducing arbuscular mycorrhiza, we will define mycorrhizal technologies, and we will collate evidence on what we should expect from managing fields for mycorrhizal propagules. We will subsequently review some studies on smallholder farmers in China and their struggle to transition towards modern agricultural practices. Via doing this we want to capture the actual prospects of integrating mycorrhizal technologies in developing countries and how these differ from the West.<\/p>\n

Short CV<\/strong>: Assoc. Prof. Stavros Veresoglou currently holds an associate professor position at the School of Ecology at Sun Yat-Sen University in China. Prof. Veresoglou is a global change biologist specializing in plant-soil interactions and applies his research to both agricultural and natural systems. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles in many prestigious journals (20 of which have received over 100 citations according to Google Scholar) and has an h-index of 36.<\/p>\n
