{"id":1198,"date":"2020-04-14T12:13:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T09:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ihu.gr\/ucips\/?p=1198"},"modified":"2020-12-05T10:19:34","modified_gmt":"2020-12-05T08:19:34","slug":"the-international-hellenic-university-responds-rapidly-to-the-fight-against-covid-19-by-printing-3d-protective-face-shields","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ihu.gr\/ucips\/post-1198","title":{"rendered":"The International Hellenic University responds rapidly to the fight against COVID-19 by printing 3D protective face shields"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p><strong>The International Hellenic University responds rapidly to the fight against COVID-19 by printing 3D protective face shields<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p>The Digital <em>Manufacturing and Materials Characterization (DMMC) Laboratory<\/em> of the Department of Science and Technology, <strong>International Hellenic University (IHU), <\/strong>in order to support doctors and medical staff in their difficultdaily battle against COVID-19, joined forces with the <em>Robotics Laboratory of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management <\/em>of the IHU and organized the production of 3D Printed Protective Face Shields for COVID-19 in collaboration with the <em>Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)<\/em> and 3D printing companies (<em>AniMa-The\u00a03D\u00a0Printer\u00a0Experts,\u00a0G-Code,\u00a0Thes3D,\u00a0Quick3Dparts\u00a0<\/em><em>\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9<\/em><em>\u00a0Retouch-Health\u00a0Solution<\/em>s).<\/p>\n<p><strong>290 protective shields <\/strong>were delivered on 08\/04\/2020 and more specific <strong>190 to AHEPA General Hospital <\/strong>and <strong>100 to <em>Georgios Papanikolaou<\/em> General Hospital <\/strong>both treating patients with COVID-19 in Thessaloniki.<\/p>\n<p>The protective face shields consist of a crown which is produced in a 3D printer using PLA as printing material, a biocompatible material which can be easily sterilized, and a transparent PET membrane.
