IHU Molecular Ecology\/Molecular Biology Lab<\/h2><\/div>

As part of the MSc in Bioeconomy: Biotechnology and Law and the MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and Business, the UCIPS has developed and operates the Molecular Ecology\/Molecular Biology Lab in the IHU premises. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art, modern equipment for advanced research on the fields of molecular biology, molecular ecology, environmental microbiology, microbial taxonomy and functional diversity, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and nucleic acids research. Also, the laboratory will be used for educational purposes for the students of the MSc in Bioeconomy: Biotechnology and Law and the MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and Business , and related educational programmes, for work done in the context of research-based master theses and Ph.D. theses, and for national and international research collaborations. It includes, among other equipment, PCR cycler, centrifuges, electrophoresis apparatus, pH-meter, orbital shaker, microplate reader, spectrophotometer, water-bath, autoclave, and a biosafety level 2 cabinet. #IHUBioLab<\/p>\n<\/div>

Dissertations 2019-2020<\/h3>\n

Students of the IHU MSc in Bioeconomy: Biotechnology and Law have started their dissertation research projects in the Molecular Ecology Lab of Thermi\u2019s facilities under the supervision of the Programme\u2019s Academic Associate, Dr. Savvas Genitsaris. In particular, their projects concern: (a) the investigation of the plankton community of Thessaloniki Bay with morphological and molecular markers (Lydia-Effrosyni Athanasiou), and (b) the investigation of the community structure of rhizo- and phyllosphere bacterial assemblages in tomato cultivars of Santorini Island via bioinformatic analysis of 16S rRNA gene amplicons (Ntinos Eleftheriadis).<\/p>\n<\/div>
