
{"id":13584,"date":"2024-06-13T14:56:27","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T11:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ihu.gr\/ucips\/?page_id=13584"},"modified":"2026-03-03T13:19:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T11:19:28","slug":"authforeigndocs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ihu.gr\/ucips\/authforeigndocs","title":{"rendered":"Authentication of foreign documents"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:0px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:20px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"margin:0;--fontSize:34;line-height:1.47;\"><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Authentication of foreign documents<\/p><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a foreign public document to be accepted by Greek public services, it must first be duly authenticated on a case- by \u2013 case basis.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Authentication\u00a0<\/span><strong>precedes<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0its official translation.<\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<strong>A)<\/strong>\u00a0If the foreign public document has been issued by an authority of a country which is a party to the Hague Convention of 1961, it must bear the\u00a0<strong>apostille stamp<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A1)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The apostille stamp must be set\u00a0<strong>on the original genuine documents\u00a0<\/strong>(original degree, undergraduate diploma, etc) and not upon a copy.<br \/>\nFor the list of countries that are parties to the Hague Convention of 1961, see\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-weight: 400;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hcch.net\/en\/instruments\/conventions\/status-table\/?cid=41\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.hcch.net\/en\/instruments\/conventions\/status-table\/?cid=41<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nFor the list of institutions in each country responsible for the affixing of the Apostille stamp, see\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-weight: 400;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hcch.net\/en\/instruments\/conventions\/authorities1\/?cid=41\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.hcch.net\/en\/instruments\/conventions\/authorities1\/?cid=41<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nNowadays, in most of the countries there is an electronic apostille issue service (eApostille). Please try to use this service if available in your country region. It will speed up the verification of your document and eventually your enrolment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A2)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Once stamped, the documents must be\u00a0<strong>officially translated<\/strong>\u00a0into Greek by an official translation service (see below).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After the set of the apostille, genuine stamped documents (originals, not copies) together with the genuine Greek translation of them, must be kept available in any case the Secretariat of the School might inquire them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B)<\/strong>\u00a0If the foreign public document has been issued by the authorities of a country that is not a party to the Hague Convention\u00a0or, of a country that although they have acceded to the Convention, Greece has expressed objections (i.e. Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Peru, Tunisia, Philippines, Kosovo, Pakistan),\u00a0the steps that have to be followed are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>B1)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Certification by the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the document\u2019s country of origin<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>B2)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Certification by the relevant\u00a0<strong>Greek consular authority<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>in the country of origin<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong style=\"color: #d32f2f;\">IMPORTANT<\/strong>: Make sure you keep safe the \u201c<strong>Proof of Receipt<\/strong>\u201d issued by the Greek consular authority, upon completion of certification. You must send it to us for an easy and quick way to verify the certification and complete your enrolment. If you lose the \u201c<strong>Proof of Receipt\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>the final verification<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>of your documents has to be made by\u00a0<strong>the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called \u201c<\/strong><\/span><a style=\"font-weight: 400;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mfa.gr\/en\/foreign-policy\/greeks-abroad\/keppa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CITIZENS AND GREEKS ABROAD SERVICE AND INFORMATION CENTER<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>Please visit their webpage, if needed, to see their contact info.<strong>\u00a0Their webpage is a source of information where you can be informed thoroughly about which case you are subject to.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><br style=\"font-weight: 400;\" \/><strong>Exception:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Documents coming from Ethiopia, Algeria, Afghanistan, Ghana, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Kenya, DR Congo, Libya, Mali, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Tunisia, are certified only through the competent paid Greek Consular Authority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>B3)<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Once verification completed, the documents must be\u00a0<strong>officially translated<\/strong>\u00a0into Greek by an official translation service (see below).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>CAUTION:<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Appointments to governmental services either Greek consular authorities or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin might not be so timely fixed.
