A series of lectures introduces into the prehistory of Macedonia. The lessons cover all main periods of prehistory, from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic to the end of the Bronze Age. The scope of the course is to present and to synthesize the evidence concerning material culture, the organization and use of space, architecture, economy and burial practices in Macedonia, as well as the interpretations concerning social organization and relationships of prehistoric communities, both among them and with others in the wider geographical region of the Balkans, the Aegean and Anatolia. To this end, evidence for the network of exchange will be presented including the mobility of humans, raw materials and finished products. During the course, cultural processes that might have contributed to the changes in the social organization of prehistoric communities in Macedonia will be discussed.
