Commercial and Investment Banking
Aims This course aims to provide students with an insight into the major features of the banking business and to provide a framework for the understanding of the different types of banks and banking activities. The first part of this course will examine the changing business characteristics of the commercial banking industry while the second part will focus on the global investment banking industry. In particular, the asset structure and revenue-earning features of major commercial and investment banks will be examined. In addition, their cost and return features will be outlined, together with recent developments in the industry. Finally the course will analyse various regulatory issues associated with the commercial and investment banking business together with recent developments in European banking markets.
