Aims

The objective of this course is to provide an understanding of the challenges facing the Fund Management industry and the key issues and practices encountered by the practicing fund manager. The course builds on previous courses on principles of finance and corporate finance and provides an appreciation of the practical applications of portfolio theory in the context of investment management. Although the focus of the course is on the management of funds by institutional investors (pension funds, investment trusts, unit trusts and insurance companies), many of the principles are equally applicable to the investments of individual investors.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • Familiarise themselves with contemporary fund management practice and market trends evolving in different countries
  • Appreciate the implications of modern portfolio theory for practical fund management issues
  • Develop analytical skills to evaluate complex portfolio management decisions
