Applied Biotechnology

In this course, various biotechnological applications will be examined in detail. These applications include biotechnological methods for food and food additives (cheese, bakeries, wine, and meat), biotechnological methods in the paper industry, leather, textiles and aquaculture. Students will become familiar with the applications of Biomedical Technology (e.g. new drug development, vaccines, therapeutic antibodies and antibiotics, molecular diagnostics and new therapeutic strategies such as cellular, gene and regenerative therapies) and Environmental Biotechnology (such as waste bio-treatment, bio-monitoring and biofuel production).
